NORA JANE STRUTHERS

Nora Jane Struthers is "remarkable,” says Ann Powers of NPR Music, and writes music that is “as powerful as anything Jason Isbell released this year.” The songs that last decades and weave themselves into the fabric of listeners' lives are usually the ones in which an artist lays her soul bare for the world to hear. Struthers' new album Champion, released at the close of 2017, is built on these kinds of songs. Struthers wrote and recorded the album with her longtime road band the Party Line, and the chemistry between her and the other players is palpable. Champion is the follow-up to 2015's Wake, and earned Struthers acclaim from major outlets like NPR’s Fresh Air, Rolling Stone, and Vice/Noisey, who raved that “Nora Jane Struthers and her band sound ready to take over Americana completely … bringing a fuller, harder sound to the table.”

There’s an honesty and energy to Nora Jane’s stage presence; a vulnerability that is part and parcel of great artistry. In one moment, she joyfully leads the audience in a dance party … in the next, she lays her soul bare for the world to hear. A performance by Nora Jane and her band is full to the brim with stellar musicianship, unexpected arrangements that blur the lines between folk, roots, and rock, and an audible sense that everyone in the room is having a damn good time.

SOFIA TALVIK

Unmistakably Nordic in flavor, Sofia Talvik somehow still conforms to American interpretations of her own original music, a North Sea siren blending sparkle and melancholy. A veteran performer with 6 full length albums as well as numerous EPs, singles and tours behind her.

Growing up in Sweden her music has always had a special tint of her Scandinavian heritage, making her a favorite among music lovers, but her 16 month, and 37 state long tour, through the USA (in an RV) has moved her music closer to the Americana tradition. The adventure on the road spurred a lot of emotions, both those of triumph and joy, but also those of self doubt and defeat – all of which found their way into the songs of her 2015 album ”Big Sky Country”.

Living like a musical nomad, moving from place to place, slowly but steadily building her audience through her heartfelt and personal performances she got to experience the USA in a way few people do. The people she met opened their homes and hearts to her and some of them even made it into her songs. But the new album is not a diary from her tour, it’s more of a storybook of emotions, new and old in which everyone can find their own place.

ELIOT BRONSON

Award-winning Americana singer-songwriter Eliot Bronson's most recent album, James, was released on August 25, 2017 via Rock Ridge Music (with distribution via ADA).  James was produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton), who also produced Bronson’s most recent, self-titled album. “It was a pleasure working with Eliot,” says Cobb. “He is a brilliant lyricist and poet.”  James offers songs that are more like pictures than movies, capturing moments and digging deeply into their meanings.

Embraced for his 2014 self-titled album by the likes of CMT Edge, Country Weekly, Guitar World, Sirius XM’s Outlaw Country, Acoustic Guitar Magazine and more, Paste Magazine called Bronson and his music “an Americana gem” and “a poetic blend of urban coffee house and outskirts-of-town saloon.”  Bop n Jazz upped that ante by heralding him as “maybe the best singer/songwriter since Dylan.”  Bronson has released three critically acclaimed solo albums and, prior to his solo career, was a member of The Brilliant Inventions. He has won esteemed songwriting awards as first place at Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at MerleFest and Eddie Owen Presents “Songwriter Shootout,” and he’s been a finalist at Kerrville Folk Festival, Rocky Mountain Folks Fest Songwriting Contest, and New Song Contest Lincoln Center NYC.

MIKE FARRIS

with  the BONES FOR J.R.JONES

Mike Farris is a musical renaissance man. He’s toured as lead singer for the Southern Rock Band Screaming Cheetah Wheelies, and following the demise of blues & rock legend Stevie Ray Vaughn, as the lead singer for the incomparable blues band, Double Trouble. In his solo career he began to rediscover and reinterpret traditional black spiritual music by adding his own mix of vintage southern soul. For his efforts, Farris won the prestigious Americana Music Award for Best New & Emerging Artist, a Dove Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album of the Year and a 2015 Grammy® award for Best Roots Gospel Album.

“Out of this diminutive, self-described southern boy comes an extraordinary soulful voice with a range, talent and emotions that make him seem possessed.”

-Terry Stewart, President & CEO, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum

thE bones of J.R. JONES

What has continued to define The Bones of J.R. Jones is the musician’s hypnotic live show. He operates as a one-man band — playing guitar, drums, and singing in unison, creating the feeling of a raucous blues band with more immediacy. “Anytime I think about my live show I try to view it from one of my audience member’s perspective,” conclude Jonathon Linaberry, the artist who performs as The Bones of J.R. Jones. “I do a lot up there. I cover a lot of ground sonically.  I’m trying to give myself room to grow.”

The Bones of J.R. Jones’ latest album, Spirit’s Furnace, a crisp nine-track effort that bubbles with barroom dust and hard-won wisdom, finds the musician expanding the scope of his musical vision while stripping away the excess.

kate MCGARRY

Grammy nominated vocalist KATE McGARRY celebrates the release of her debut trio album The Subject Tonight Is Love feat with guitarist Keith Ganz and pianist Gary Versace.  For their early Valentine’s CD release celebration, the acclaimed trio reimagines beloved standards, sets music to the words of 14th century Sufi poet Hafiz, and mines the depths of McGarry’s soul-stirring originals. The result is a fresh, cinematic approach to jazz that invites listeners into the music through unexpected doorways.

The formidable talents of these GRAMMY nominated musicians are in full bloom on this ambitious outing. Ganz shines on nylon, steel, electric and bass guitars while Versace moves masterfully between piano, electric keyboard, organ and accordion. Together they create a richly nuanced sonic canvas. McGarry’s voice rings true throughout, painting pictures that penetrate and illumine the human journey.

As an educator she has taught at New England Conservatory and currently serves on the faculty of Manhattan School of Music.  In July of 2016 DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE 64th Critics Poll named McGarry the #1 Rising Star Female Vocalist.
