NORA JANE STRUTHERS

Nora Jane Struthers is "remarkable,” says Ann Powers of NPR Music, and writes music that is “as powerful as anything Jason Isbell released this year.” The songs that last decades and weave themselves into the fabric of listeners' lives are usually the ones in which an artist lays her soul bare for the world to hear. Struthers' new album Champion, released at the close of 2017, is built on these kinds of songs. Struthers wrote and recorded the album with her longtime road band the Party Line, and the chemistry between her and the other players is palpable. Champion is the follow-up to 2015's Wake, and earned Struthers acclaim from major outlets like NPR’s Fresh Air, Rolling Stone, and Vice/Noisey, who raved that “Nora Jane Struthers and her band sound ready to take over Americana completely … bringing a fuller, harder sound to the table.”

There’s an honesty and energy to Nora Jane’s stage presence; a vulnerability that is part and parcel of great artistry. In one moment, she joyfully leads the audience in a dance party … in the next, she lays her soul bare for the world to hear. A performance by Nora Jane and her band is full to the brim with stellar musicianship, unexpected arrangements that blur the lines between folk, roots, and rock, and an audible sense that everyone in the room is having a damn good time.

SOFIA TALVIK

Unmistakably Nordic in flavor, Sofia Talvik somehow still conforms to American interpretations of her own original music, a North Sea siren blending sparkle and melancholy. A veteran performer with 6 full length albums as well as numerous EPs, singles and tours behind her.

Growing up in Sweden her music has always had a special tint of her Scandinavian heritage, making her a favorite among music lovers, but her 16 month, and 37 state long tour, through the USA (in an RV) has moved her music closer to the Americana tradition. The adventure on the road spurred a lot of emotions, both those of triumph and joy, but also those of self doubt and defeat – all of which found their way into the songs of her 2015 album ”Big Sky Country”.

Living like a musical nomad, moving from place to place, slowly but steadily building her audience through her heartfelt and personal performances she got to experience the USA in a way few people do. The people she met opened their homes and hearts to her and some of them even made it into her songs. But the new album is not a diary from her tour, it’s more of a storybook of emotions, new and old in which everyone can find their own place.

SARAH POTENZA

Rolling Stone says “Potenza is to the blues what Adele is to pop: a colossal-voiced singer who merges her old-school influences with a modernistic sound.”

After years of touring with her band Sarah & The Tall Boys, Sarah Potenza was chosen over 50,000 candidates to appear on The Voice. Judge Pharrell Williams’ reaction to Potenza’s on-air audition gives you a pretty good idea of the level of talent of this incredible singer. Williams’ immediately exclaimed, “You’re giving this generation something they've never seen before". Potenza left the show as a top 20 finalist then headed to Nashville, where she quickly integrated into the local music scene, becoming a staple at the world renowned Bluebird Café and the globally broadcast Music City Roots program. She continues to earn raves for her big voice, which seamlessly blends roots, rock and soul.

NPR Music exclusively premiered the music video to Potenza’s debut album, ‘Monster’.  Programmers have been supporting her gritty sound and unstoppable resolve, resulting in ‘Monster’ moving quickly up the Americana Radio chart. NPR Music calls the album a “blistering, riff-propelled personal anthem,” while No Depression states, “You won’t find any gimmicks on MONSTER, just pure unadulterated rock and roll.” Sarah’s album also received rave reviews from Rolling Stone. In September the magazine named her one of the top 10 artists you need to know, stating “Potenza is to the Blues what Adele is to Pop.”

kate MCGARRY

Grammy nominated vocalist KATE McGARRY celebrates the release of her debut trio album The Subject Tonight Is Love feat with guitarist Keith Ganz and pianist Gary Versace.  For their early Valentine’s CD release celebration, the acclaimed trio reimagines beloved standards, sets music to the words of 14th century Sufi poet Hafiz, and mines the depths of McGarry’s soul-stirring originals. The result is a fresh, cinematic approach to jazz that invites listeners into the music through unexpected doorways.

The formidable talents of these GRAMMY nominated musicians are in full bloom on this ambitious outing. Ganz shines on nylon, steel, electric and bass guitars while Versace moves masterfully between piano, electric keyboard, organ and accordion. Together they create a richly nuanced sonic canvas. McGarry’s voice rings true throughout, painting pictures that penetrate and illumine the human journey.

As an educator she has taught at New England Conservatory and currently serves on the faculty of Manhattan School of Music.  In July of 2016 DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE 64th Critics Poll named McGarry the #1 Rising Star Female Vocalist.

BARNABY BRIGHT

SPECIAL GUEST ADDED: ALAN BLACK-PRINCIPAL CELLIST CHARLOTTE SYMPHONY

Nathan and Rebecca Bliss, the voices and the brains behind Barnaby Bright, are truly the modern day traveling troubadours, averaging roughly 150 shows and 40,000 miles traveled a year, gracing such notable venues as Lincoln Center and NPR's "Mountain Stage" in West Virgina, and sharing stages with the likes of the Lumineers and Norah Jones. After moving to Nashville in spring of 2014, they began work on their most recent full-length album with producer Cason Cooley (Ingrid Michaelson, Sixpence None the Richer, Matt Kearney), which is set to release early 2015.

"Barnaby Bright has a graceful, uplifting energy...but also have a virtuosity that is extremely unique. Becky can be festive but also sings with a mesmerizing stateliness that evokes Mary Fahl of the October Project at times, while Nate's vocals and guitar playing are gifted and creative throughout. They have a special chemistry that helps erase cynicism while giving hope that the best is yet to come." -Steve Morse, Boston Globe, Billboard Magazine & Rolling Stone
