Massachusetts-based “writer song-singer” Heather Maloney discovered her voice during three years at a meditation center, shaping a sound rooted in quiet reflection and a deep love of storytelling. Influenced by figures like Joni Mitchell, Rilke, and Zen parables, her songwriting explores the inner world with curiosity, reverence, and emotional clarity. Though she traded monastic stillness for the life of a touring musician, that contemplative core remains central to her work.

With over 1,000 international shows and eight studio albums behind her, Maloney is releasing her ninth and most personal record, Exploding Star (January 31, 2025). Written after the death of her father and recorded in her abandoned childhood home using his guitar, the album is a deeply intimate collection—both celebratory and heartbreaking. Produced by Darlingside’s Don Mitchell with arrangements by Isabella DeHerdt and Isaac Eliot, the record moves fluidly between lush and sparse, urgent and hushed, illuminating grief with honesty and grace.

Maloney’s work has earned praise from outlets like PopMatters, The New York Times, and The Bluegrass Situation, and her songs have appeared on NPR, eTown, AudioTree, and CBS’s Elementary. She has toured internationally as a headliner and alongside artists including Lake Street Dive, Shakey Graves, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Shawn Colvin. Beyond music, she is also an illustrator and linocut artist, carving visual counterparts to her songs—further expanding her rich, multidisciplinary storytelling.
